MiPal's Reading Skills programme is built on one simple belief: when a child reads what they love, they read more - and reading more is what makes them better at everything. Every session is interest-led and Ontario curriculum-aligned.
Students choose their reading material from a curated selection based on their interests, grade level, and learning goals. A child who is interested in what they read will always read more and retain more.
Before reading begins, students are taught to preview text - looking at titles, headings, images, and structure to activate prior knowledge and set reading intentions.
Students engage with the text in real-time: asking questions, forming predictions, and constructing answers. This active approach builds comprehension far beyond passive silent reading.
Regular read-aloud practice builds reading fluency, pronunciation, pacing, and expression - skills directly assessed in Ontario standardized tests including EQAO for Grades 3 and 6.
New vocabulary is introduced in context - through the actual texts students are reading - which research consistently shows as the most effective method for lasting word retention.
"A child who reads widely will think widely, write well, and speak with confidence. Reading is the foundation of everything."
